Mixed Media Artist of the Year - The Flip Runway Refinishing Awards 2020

Here at Cabinet & Couture we create professionally refinished and upcycled furniture - turning vintage items into show-stopping, jaw-dropping, drop-dead gorgeous furniture for your home.

Based near Richmond, North Yorkshire, the creative force behind Cabinet & Couture is Anthony Hughes; using a combination of paint, paper and oil giving tired and old-fashioned pieces a total makeover.

Beginning his furniture refinishing journey back around when he was 15, being a "gofer" to his Mother and her kitchen painting business, he went on to study Surface Design for Interiors at Huddersfield, graduating with a First Class Honours.

After working in the fields of interior trend forcasting for some time, and a wild stint in healthcare recruitment, he picked up his brushes and paint again late 2019 and rekindled a favourite skill.

Our work has been described as "exquisite", "exceptionally cool" and "outstanding in it's field" - a design vision is usually conjured for each piece almost instantly. Working with high-end papers from individual designers and established print houses, and paint from brands such as Zoffany, Little Greene and Fusion Mineral Paint, Anthony also works to clients-own briefs to create furniture to fit their exacting requirements.

Scourcing vintage furniture items from local marketplaces and auction houses, online sales and house clearances, we throughly enjoy the process of restoration and refinishing through to seeing the items in a clients home.

Inspiration is found in many places and music plays a major part in that - from operatic metal to campy drag-pop, 80s power ballads to cinematic scores - each item of furniture is original and as unique as couture fashion!

In February 2021, Cabinet & Couture was delighted to receive the title Mixed Media Artist of the Year at the prestigious Flip Runway Awards 2020! This kick-starts an exciting year for Anthony, with exciting designer collaborations, unique commisions and interior design projects all to come.
